Any good family movies out there?

We don't have television at our house. Oh, we have a TV and a DVD player and even one of those things, oh, what are they called, VCRs? But we don't get any channels. Every other year, we get television service for the month of the Olympics, and we gorge ourselves on shows.

We do watch movies around here, and it seems like lately, the kids are watching the same ones and are tired of them. We got a few new ones for Christmas, like Kung-Fu Panda and Alvin & the Chipmunks, but neither has the staying power of, say, Enchanted or The Incredibles.

So I'm looking around for some good family shows for my kids. Seen anything good lately?

Sorry- my boys are hooked on Pokemon right now... that doesn't qualify as good! They love to go to the library and choose movies- I love that it's free!
Growing up, we didn't have TV either. We had a lot of the Feature Films for Families. I think they still make them. Our very favorite was Rigoletto (It's a modern beauty and the beast, kind of.) I still love to watch it. Little Women is a good movie. We got Andre for Christmas this year (the movie about the seal in Maine.) The kids liked it. Yours are a little older so would probably appreciate it even more. I still love watching it. :) Parent Trap is another favorite around here. Rusty loves the old Disney movies, like the Apple Dumpling Gang and Blackbeard's Ghost. For your older kids, maybe Cheaper by the Dozen.

These aren't all movies our kids have watched, just ones that I like that are clean. They all live up to my mom's standards, and she's the hardest to please when it comes to movies, so I think you would think they're appropriate. Mary Poppins, the Wizard of Oz and the SOund of Music are good too. Pretty much all the Disney movies get watched over and over around here. Good luck! We have a lot of the movies I mentioned if you want to watch them before buying them.

Our family loves the "old" TV shows. We either rent through Netflix (since we have no video rental stores in our town) or we will buy the series. Some of our favorites (my kids range in ages from JR. in HS to 3 yr. old): The Addams family, Get Smart, F Troop, Andy Griffith Show, Giligans Island,Hogan's Hero, and The Munsters.

They seem to be more wholesome and we don't have to worry about if the content is appropiate or not.

Feature films for families might be a good place to look for movies. They are coming out with the Velveteen Rabbit next month and it will be playing in theatres, too.

You really should get the Fraggle Rock DVDs. There are four seasons, and they are beyond delightful! I watched them in the 80s, I watch them now by myself, and I will watch them one day with my children!
