Mary or Martha?

Well, I had an interesting day today, as I scurried from one errand or task to another, trying to get a ton done, and feeling more overwhelmed in the process. I DID get a lot done today, but didn't feel very satisfied or happy, until the last half-hour, when I took some time to wind down and remember the most important things in my life. I took some time alone and read through some talks given at my Church's last General Conference. As I did so, I felt inspired to do more to improve the atmosphere and love in our home, and I felt renewed and excited about life again.

As I thought about this experience, I realized that I was being too much like Martha in the following story from Luke 10:

"Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.
But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her."

I think many times I am too "cumbered about" with my to-do lists and plans, and forget to take the quiet moments to think about the direction of my life and family. I'm grateful that tonight I took some quiet time to remember "that good part." A can-do attitude is wonderful, but life is more than a series of to-do lists, and I'm grateful for that reminder tonight.
