Housework Misery

Most moms I talk to hate laundry. The way it piles up, the way it's never done, the way it seems to multiply. Me? I've never minded laundry much. I wash it all one day, let it pile up in baskets, then fold it the next. Folding laundry is about the only time I watch videos, so it's almost a treat to settle down for several hours and fold. I used to do all the laundry once a week, but the piles became too enormous and overwhelming, so now I wash on Mondays and Thursdays and fold on Tuesdays and Fridays. It always amazes me how many loads I can wash, though, even doing it twice a week. Yesterday, I folded 8 baskets of clothes. My thoughts started wandering towards speculating how much laundry there would be when we have six teenagers at home plus other children. I had to tell my mind to change the subject, as I began to feel a bit overwhelmed. But while laundry is no big deal to me, what I really hate doing is cleaning my hard floors. I don't mind vacuuming, but mopping? When we built our house, we put in a rather large kitchen area, with space for several tables when we have guests. We also put in lots of laminate flooring, which is fairly indestructible and fairly easy to clean. In addition to the kitchen, we have about five rooms with hard floors and over 1000 square feet of it. With seven messy kids wandering in and out, the floors get pretty dirty really quickly. I love everything about my big kitchen, until it comes time to clean the floors. I don't know why I hate it, but I do. So what housework do you hate the most?

hmm.. I can't decide. I do laundry everyday which gets a little old, but it's quick (really it takes 3 minutes!), I used to hate mopping too, but now I listen to a book on my cell phone (it has an mp3 player). Oh- I know- I hate cleaning showers!!!

I hate laundry. I do about 5 loads a day and am never caught up! Or so it seems. I only have a family of 5 too so that is scary! Half of it is Emma's medical realted things (wet pads, and drool rags)

What I do love is your kitchen, its beautiful!

I'm popping in from pyp. I'm with you - I hate mopping! (And yes, teenagers will produce a TON of laundry. Some of it won't even be theirs.)

Me too! It's got to be the wood floors. I put it off and put it off....they are pretty to look at, but not fun to scrub.

I do laundry every day too, just like Jacki--and BTW--how do you know Jacki? She is my husband's cousin! Small world!

I think it is showers/bathtubs for me and bathroom floors. . .

I'm so blessed with a hubby that will do em for me--though he has such a limited amount of time. I will do em while the kids are bathing (the floors) and before I shower once a week and it seems to do the trick. . . still not my favorite job AT ALL.

Glad others have a NOT fun list ;0)

Like you, laundry is my favorite task (although I'm having a hard time getting off the computer and onto that job right at the moment). I love any task that turns a mountain of mess into a tidy collection of something fresh. This is also the reason I enjoy loading the dishwasher. I like it done 'just so'. I'm not fussy about many things, but I like my dishwasher to be loaded in an organized way. There is nothing more satisfying to me than opening that door and seeing all my nice, clean, steamy plates. :-)
My worst task is anything that involves de-cluttering. I love organizing, but sorting through the mountain of school papers, church papers, bills, notices, random photos, catalogs, etc.... is so overwhelming to me!

I hate matching socks. Sometimes it gets done. Sometimes we just are matching socks out of the laundry basket. When I do socks my DH 47 pairs or socks, yeah you heard that right. The girls have quite a bit too. So when I do have a sock party they last for a long time.
I think I would clean constantly if it meant all my meals were prepared for me...I feel like that's all we ever do - eat, and eat, and eat (I like the eating part, just not the MAKING).

Laundry. Mine is laundry. I love to vacuum. I used to hate sweeping until my sil talked me into it--how immediately satisfying it can be..lol.

I hate putting away the laundry, specifically.

Bathrooms--mainly the toilets and floor around them.

But I also love to sit and fold socks while watching a movie. I do laundry almost every day and fold the clothes out of the dryer, but I put the socks into the sock basket and match them when I can sit and watch TV.

I have 2 teenagers, and 4 younger children, and my oldest goes through more clothes than my daughter, but he plays basketball everyday too.

You do laundry like us! Hubby and i let it pile up and then spend a whole day washing and folding and watching a movies together. Works well for us.

Doing dishes by hand. I hate it with a passion. My dishwasher saves my sanity.

I don't mind doing the laundry because it is relaxing to watch a video.
I'm the opposite of Debbie. I hate the constant cleaning. I don't mind cleaning, but I HATE having to start over every single day. I cleaned this morning, everything was organized and put away, floors vacuumed, all that, and tonight it's all a disaster. It keeps going, day after day after day, and it's so discouraging.

I hate sweeping and mopping the tile. I have at least as much as you do and it is so annoying to me.
